The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “yuj” which means to unite. The practice of yoga is about uniting one’s mind, spirit, and body with the hope to eventually be able to unite ourselves with the larger universe around us. In our day to day lives, our mind becomes laden with the business of our world. We hold on to things from our past and we worry about our futures. All of this noise in our mind prevents us from being one with our bodies and spirits. The full practice of yoga can help with this.
Practicing Asanas

Practicing yoga gives us a chance to commune with ourselves. To quiet the outside noise in our mind so that we can really explore who we are. Yoga asanas (postures) are only one small part of the practice of yoga, but they are the most forward facing part and the place where most people are introduced to yoga.
Asanas give us a chance to tune into our bodies, to feel the movement and the breath. We can use this opportunity to allow our minds to focus solely on what is happening in that moment. Through this, we become more unified with ourselves and then by extension, those around us.
